Lacombe Branch #79

The Legion is one of the most democratic, autonomous organizations in the country!

It is governed by By-laws as set down from Dominion Command and Provincial Command.

The Northwest Territories is a part of Alberta Command.
The common title is,
"The Alberta, N.W.T. Command".

The Branch adheres to the Dominion Command and Provincial Command By-laws. It also has its own By-laws.

A group of Branches in close proximity are organized into Districts. They are a non-governing group for District interests. The Lacombe Branch is in District 3.

The Executive is elected every June. It consists of a President, Past President, 1st vice President, 2nd Vice President (the Officers), a Secretary, a Treasurer and six Directors.

The President appoints the Sergeant-At-Arms, Branch Chaplain, and the Service Officer. The Officers and Executive are elected for a one-year term and can be re-elected.

Volunteers are encouraged to accept the responsibility of chairing Standing Committees and special needs.

A Quorum is constituted of 15 voting members.

The Executive makes recommendations to the General Membership on finances, donations, policies, etc., which are usually first approved by the Committees.
Lounge staff are paid a salary.

Various projects and committees are accepted from the General Membership.

Volunteers are encouraged to organize special events and activities.
Suggestions from the community are welcome!

The Executive, staff, all members and decisions by a "motion - carried" are governed by a majority vote of the General Membership.

The Branch facilities are available for rent.
Consideration is available for persons, or groups with special needs.

The Branch operates a Lounge for Legion members and their guests.

The Lacombe Branch manages the Legion Sunset Campground for the general public.
There is a need for willing individuals or groups to become involved in the Community.

There is much more to the Legion than what is visible to the eye!

The Royal Canadian Legion welcomes you to join the Branch in your area.

The Last Post Fund (LPF)

The Last Post Fund is dedicated to ensure, in so far as possible, that no war veterans, military disability pensioners or civilians who meet wartime service eligibility criteria are denied a dignified funeral and burial for lack of sufficient funds.

"To honour and protect in death seems but a small return to those who have protected their country in life."

This special fund was founded in Montreal, Quebec in 1909 and is a non-profit corporation whose purposes are:
  • to ensure, insofar as possible, that no war veterans or civilians who meet wartime service eligibility criteria are denied a dignified funeral and burial for lack of sufficient funds;
  • to provide funeral and burial benefits to wartime and peacetime disability pensioners who die either from a pensioned condition or a condition that can be related to military service; and
  • to provide grave headstones for war veteran graves that have been unmarked for more than five years.

The LPF operates in cooperation with, and is supported financially by Veterans Affairs Canada and by private donations.
The LPF has its National Office in Montreal and Branch offices in every province except Prince Edward Island which is administered by the New Brunswick Branch.
